First Day Experiences Of Cadet
Dr. Faridul Islam, 6/322 (Faridul)

It was a Monday of 28th July , 1969; it was a hot and sunny summer day with a little possibility of raining. My mother was very sad from the early morning. She was trying to hide herself all the time, because her eyes were full of tears. My immediate younger brother, Masud, was trying to be with me and talk with me all the time. But I could not take that much time for him - I had to listen to the goodbye advices of my father.

My father and me started for the college after lunch. Chaklapara is not far away from JCC; so we decided to go by a rickshaw.

Surprisingly, we did not talk much to each other on our way to JCC. I guess, my father was also a bit sad, but he did not let me know that. In about half an hour we were in the college campus.

Many of my friends/class mates were already there with their parents. Our Jhenidah group (Hasan Nasir, Ahsanullah, Shahriar Zahedi) was almost all the time together. The other groups (Dhaka, Khulna, Jessore etc.) with parents and children did also the same. Gradually it was time to take leave. Some of the parents were on the way to leave the college, because they had a long way back.

My father suddenly stopped his lectures on education, discipline, punctuality, etc. etc. and asked me: "Are you sad?" (Tor kharap lagche naki?). I gave him a prompt answer with a "na".. But the answer was not good enough. I could study his face - he did not believe me. He was correct - I was really a bit sad, leaving behind my younger brother Masud and football friends in Chaklapara.

While our discussion went on, we saw (my father specially) a mother crying beside us. We also saw (me specially) some cadets playing football in a nearby ground. My father asked me once again: "Are you really sad?". This time my "na" was other than the first one. I know, he believed me this time and I know, why.

I was really in love with my college while playing football on the next day; and later I was a member of the college team for three years.

How does time fly ! It is a long time, that we have left our college. My father has left us many years ago for his heavenly peace. I still remember the nice and innocent faces of my friends on the first day of my college and want to get back to this day again.
